New Research Reveals Promising Strategies for Enhancing Clinical Hypnosis Adherence in Anxiety Sufferers: Expressive Art Therapy and Neurofeedback Assessments









We're excited to share a groundbreaking research article that explores how expressive art therapy and neurofeedback assessments can help improve clinical hypnosis adherence for people with anxiety. This study, conducted by me, uncovers the potential of these approaches in managing anxiety and enhancing the effectiveness of clinical hypnosis. Let's dive into the main findings and see what they mean for individuals looking for anxiety relief.


Abstract:

Despite worldwide concern on anxiety, preventive measures in public health industries remained scarce. Previous studies found that therapeutic adherence is vital for the treatment efficacy of anxiety sufferers; polyvagal theory may address adherence issues by considering biopsychosocial perspectives. As such, this research intends to generate polyvagal-focused therapeutic guidance in line with anxiety sufferers. This study examines the effectiveness of the Creative Brain Health Intervention (CBHI), which includes expressive art therapy and neurofeedback assessments, as well as clinical hypnosis for anxiety sufferers. The study utilizes a qualitative method with a grounded theory approach to explore helpful and unhelpful factors of CBHI. The study samples were found to have minimal scores at a mild level (on anxiety or stress subscales) of eight (for the anxiety subscale) and 15 (for the stress counterpart) under DASS-21 following a screening procedure. Particularly, the samples were analyzed after CBHI through in-depth interviews for data collection. A total of 45 participants were recruited to generate the outcomes of this study, and the results show that mental healthcare can be enhanced by addressing adherence, stigma, and support through a public system and education, backed by six domains for anxiety treatment and innovative therapeutic approaches. The study recommends early intervention and prevention phases in future research to address stigmas and prevent mental disorder. Resultantly, therapeutic adherence could be enhanced with a polyvagal-focused framework CBHI established for this study. Consequently, the study suggests insights for developing therapeutic guidance to enhance adherence and prevent full-fledged anxiety complexities.

(Event) Mental Health Webinar: Managing Social Anxiety

 


Just gave a mental health promotion talk on how to manage social anxiety. 

I shared my doctoral study findings regarding the prevalence of anxiety issues and subclinical mental health concerns surrounding the topic of anxiety, which is also the focus of my PhD thesis. 

At the end of the workshop, the participants gave positive reviews about the talk. The majority of them found the topic helpful, and I heard that some of them hope for more topics related to hypnotherapy, which is my area of expertise. 

I also received feedback that my personal experience of having social anxiety symptoms also helped them to relate to these symptoms better. This really made my day, as I hope more people can start to become aware of their body-mind symptoms, which could be the first step toward healing. 



I would like to thank the clinical psychologist trainees here and the master's students in clinical psychology from USM-UPSI for initiating this project and organizing the talk. I hope more people become aware of the benefits of hypnotherapy in managing anxiety symptoms.

为什么组织需要关注创伤知情能力呢? 

在创伤期间,组织对人们的支持起着非常重要的作用,影响也是深远而长久的。这是因为在创伤时期,体制性背叛(Institutional Betrayal)和心理安全这两个概念变得尤为重要。

当我们遭遇危机时,很多人会寄望于组织的支持和保护。但如果组织未能履行这一责任,或者他们的行动让我们担心会伤害自己或我们关心的人,就会产生第二次伤害,也就是体制性背叛。体制性背叛指的是你信任或依赖的体制对你不当对待,可能是有意伤害或者无所作为。这些行为或者不作为会加剧已经困难的处境。体制性背叛可能来自于组织的大规模行动,比如对新冠疫情的应对让许多员工感到脆弱和困顿,也可能来自个人的行为,比如经理对骚扰或偏见投诉的轻视回应。 

与体制性背叛相对应的是心理安全。心理安全这个概念主要是由Amy Edmondson推广的,指的是在团队或组织内部,人们可以坦诚地承认错误、不知道答案或者面对困难。谷歌最近的一项研究发现,心理安全对于团队的协作至关重要。而建立心理安全最快的方法就是团队成员在困难时互相支持。正如《纽约时报》杂志的Charles Duhigg所说:“要感受到‘心理安全’,我们必须知道有时我们可以自由地分享那些吓人的事情,而不用担心受到指责。我们必须能够谈论混乱或悲伤,并与让我们发疯的同事进行艰难的对话。我们不能只关注效率。” 因此,如果我们在与经历创伤的人一起工作时没有适当地回应,就可能给他们增加第二次伤害。但如果我们能够做出积极的回应,就能够建立信任和联系。无论如何,我们在危机时期如何支持彼此都将在组织中产生长远的影响。 那么,我们如何确保我们的组织具备有效应对创伤的技能和资源呢?


要确保组织具备有效应对创伤的能力和资源,可以遵循以下三个总体概念:

1. 承认:愿意倾听和承认经历创伤的人的痛苦,而不是否认或转移对话的焦点。

2. 支持:在创伤和困厄时,提供具体的支持,如心理健康资源和协助丧葬等费用。

3. 信任:建立机构的信任,通过制定支持员工的政策和程序,并确保这些政策被广泛知晓和遵守。领导者应当表达对组织价值观的承诺,并坚持公正和透明。通过关注承认、支持和信任,组织能够在危机时期建立信任和联系,并为未来的挑战做好准备。

8TV八度空间的《活力加油站》分享催眠疗法如何预防和舒缓心理压力






今天我受邀到8TV 八度空间的《活力加油站》分享催眠疗法如何预防和舒缓心理压力。在我看来,催眠疗法可以作为其中一项帮助预防全面发展成精神疾病的辅助疗法。这是因为通过处理心理社会因素和采用跨诊断方法(Transdiagnostic Approach),它能间接或直接的改善一个人的心理健康状况。要知道不是有精神疾病才需要帮助,适当的身心与压力管理也很重要。

催眠疗法在我国其实也受到重视,目前我们催眠领域也正在与卫生部的传统与辅助医学部门进行着一系列国家认证相关审核工作,希望一切成功与顺利,未来催眠疗法也有更完善的国家教育系统与管制。
除了分享我的催眠和脑波生物反馈技术,我还在上节目前咨询了几位精神卫生专员探讨如何更恰当的呈现采访内容,并希望通过节目提醒提供辅助疗法的专业人士,适时转介那些疑似面对严重精神疾病症状或出现轻生念头的个案给其他精神卫生专员,或者寻求精神科医生、临床心理师或辅导员的合作。Do no harm的原则真的非常重要。

Today I was invited to share on 8TV's "Living Delight" about how hypnotherapy can prevent and alleviate psychological stress.
In my opinion, hypnotherapy can help prevent full-blown mental illness or work as a complementary therapy alongside standard mental healthcare such as psychiatric treatment. This is because by addressing psychosocial factors and taking a transdiagnostic approach, it indirectly helps improve one's mental health condition.
Hypnotherapy is actually being taken seriously in our country, and our hypnotherapy field is currently undergoing recognition appraisal by the traditional and complementary medicine departments of the MOH. We hope for success and smoothness in these efforts, and for there to be a more complete national education system and government regulation for hypnotherapy in the future.
In addition to sharing my expertise in hypnotherapy and EEG biofeedback techniques, I also consulted with several mental health specialists before the show. Through this program, I hope to remind other professionals who offer complementary therapies to timely refer cases with suspected serious mental illness symptoms or suicidal ideation to other mental health specialists, or seek the collaboration of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists or counselors. The principle of "Do no harm" is truly essential.

We conducted a corporate health talk session for AstraZeneca today. We shared about the importance of early preventive mental healthcare, as well as how to improve brain health and peak performance. We also touched on how complex trauma can affect our wellness and the importance of feeling psychologically safe. Additionally, we provided tips on how to improve our sense of psychological safety.

带你认识妥瑞症(Tourette Syndrome)与抽动症综合症(Tics disorder)- Melody FM 电台采访

到Melody FM电台进行采访,推广妥瑞症(Tourette Syndrome)与抽动症综合症(Tics disorder)的认知与醒觉分享。昨晚我还和一位专业的精神科医生讨论了如何更恰当地帮助妥瑞症患者,以便能更好的在电台传播正确的信息和内容,确保内容可以更准确地传达到听众中。

很多人可能会想,一个“创伤知情催眠治疗师”如何成为妥瑞症的宣传者?其实,在过去的十年中,我遇到了很多妥瑞症患者,他们经常遭受到各种不公正的待遇,例如被误认为是被鬼上身,受到霸凌、忽视,甚至受到亲人的虐待,只因为他们的行为和动作不受他们的控制。我看到他们的处境,感到非常心痛和无助,甚至也触动了我的一些创伤反应。因此,我开始运用我的专业知识,推广妥瑞症的认知,希望透过社会的理解和同情,避免他人在有意或无意的情况下,对妥瑞症患者造成更多的心理创伤。
目前,尚没有根治妥瑞症的方法。主要的治疗方式包括习惯反向训练(Habit reversal training)、各种身心疗法技术和推荐他们咨询精神科医生并在有需要时考虑药物治疗等,以便能更好的改善症状和其他连带出现的相关身心症状(例如焦虑和注意力问题)。在过去的10年中,我一直在努力学习更多的技术,以帮助我遇见的妥瑞症患者。我希望,即使妥瑞症患者无法根治他们的抽动症,他们也可以透过社会的关心和同情,过上更快乐自在的生活,减少心理上的创伤。

Trauma-Informed Hypnotherapy has several advantages in preventing mental illness and improving risk factors:

Reduce anxiety and stress: Many studies have shown that long-term anxiety and stress are common risk factors for mental illness. Hypnotherapy can reduce anxiety and stress by promoting deep relaxation and improving emotional states, thereby reducing the risk of mental illness.

Improve sleep: Sleep disorders are a common symptom of many mental illnesses. Hypnotherapy can help improve sleep quality and reduce problems such as waking up at night and insomnia, thus helping to prevent the occurrence of mental illness.

Enhance self-awareness and cognitive control ability: Insufficient self-awareness and cognitive control ability are also common risk factors for mental illness. Hypnotherapy can help individuals better regulate their emotions and thoughts by strengthening self-awareness and cognitive control ability, thus reducing the risk of mental illness.

Increase psychological resilience: Psychological resilience refers to an individual's ability to adapt to stress and challenges. Hypnotherapy can help individuals cultivate stronger psychological resilience, making them more resilient and confident in the face of challenges and reducing the risk of mental illness.

In summary, Trauma-informed hypnotherapy can help in preventing mental illness and improve risk factors for mental health by reducing anxiety and stress, improving sleep, enhancing self-awareness and cognitive control ability, and increasing psychological resilience.

什么是创伤导向催眠疗法?它跟常见的催眠疗法有何不同?为何学习创伤导向催眠治疗?

很多人问我:Dr Hiro, 请问什么是创伤导向催眠疗法?它跟常见的催眠疗法有何不同?为何要学习创伤导向催眠治疗?

首先,创伤导向疗法又称创伤知情疗法。创伤学,此学说专注于探索一个人发展史中的创伤经验,了解他们如何间接或直接导致目前的身心状况或亚健康问题。不管是童年创伤或者是成人后所发生的创伤事件,都可以造成一个人的生理、心理、情绪甚至是自律失调等问题。除了我们常听说的车祸、性侵和虐待等,自然灾害、健康危机、疾病、囚禁、军事事件、财务上的危机、见证亲朋戚友病危或离世等都可以造成创伤。不少人都有创伤经历,但大脑却让我们麻痹了伤痛和回忆,导致你甚至不觉得自己依然面对着创伤问题。我的临床经验发现,许多人的创伤甚至不是自己经历,而是来自见证别人的伤痛后而形成的替代性创伤。不是只有被诊断成创伤后遗症的人才会被创伤所困扰。实际上,几乎所有人都可以因为这些过去了的压力(创伤)依然储存在我们的身心里,导致我们出现不同层面,大大小小的问题。哪怕是一些小毛病,长久下去也会造成许多身心甚至人际关系问题。现代社会,几乎所有人都面对着各种压力,当然也有许多过去了的压力效应,悄悄地留在了我们身心层面上,导致了创伤问题。

而我们的课程,创伤导向催眠疗法,就是基于创伤学说而研发出现。我们希望面对大大小小创伤的个案,可以更有效、安全和安心的疗愈,从而找回自己,我们的真我。不再只是生存,而是也可以用”慈悲、好奇心、勇气、自信、创意、平静、洞察力、和社交连接“的态度开始自在生活。

没有被消化的创伤,往往会在我们的生理、心理甚至关系上引致问题。
常见的创伤触发反应包括
  • 用”外物“如赌博、喝酒、毒品甚至性爱来”麻痹“创伤导致的身心反应,从而上瘾;
  • 出现”一朝被蛇咬,十年怕井绳“的恐惧反应;
  • 僵化的思维、行为或信念;
  • 强烈避开某些与创伤事件相关的人事物之意愿;
  • 无缘无故出现的恐慌反应;
  • 自律神经失调反应;
  • 多恶梦;
  • 常常出现扰人清幽的念头
  • 其他心理疾病相关症状


学习创伤导向催眠治疗的好处:
  1. 找回心理安全感-创伤导向催眠疗法会让你学会各种创伤知情催眠疗法与自我催眠技术,让你帮助因为创伤而长期处于没有安全干的个案,渐渐找回安全感;
  2. 创伤知情教育让个案找出问题根源-让个案更了解自己为何出现某些身心问题的导因甚至根源问题,有了觉知就可以更踏实的去应对;
  3. 学会找出创伤触发点的技术-创伤导向催眠治疗将会教导你各种潜意识探索工具,让你更有效地找出个案的创伤触发机制,并引导个案如何去处理之;
  4. 学会实用创伤知情催眠技术,教导个案改善创伤导致的身心状况-你将学会各种身心调整科技,帮助个案更好的调整他们目前棘手的身心状况,甚至教导个案各种创伤知情自我催眠技巧,让个案也可以学习自我疗愈技术,大大提升疗愈体验与满意度;
  5. 学会应对技术,预防新创伤的发生-找出身心创伤根源问题后,我们也可以教导个案新的应对技巧(如沟通和脾气管理等)去克服根源问题,从而更好地避免未来的创伤或再创伤反应;而对于那些无法面对创伤的案例,也无需勉强探索过去,我们其实也可以透过教导个案学会“现在式”创伤应对技巧(Present-focused approach)来帮助更好的应对创伤触发反应。
  6. 催眠能善用潜意识,疗愈消化创伤反应-因为催眠疗法本身就能善用潜意识疗愈问题的原理,我们可以更快速有效的消化储存在大脑潜意识里的创伤机制与反应。因为许多面对创伤的生还者,理性上都知道该怎么理性的去解决问题,但往往却被大脑潜意识所控制而感到身心层面的失控感;
  7. 更容易由衷的聆听并尊重创伤导致的身心反应-往往身边的人甚至说道者,都爱说个案的创伤反应是想太多,是不理性或不够正能量所致。学会了创伤知情催眠疗法,治疗师将因为创伤知情的知识,而能更自然的去同理、尊重与真正理解到个案的各种身心反应,从而让个案可以在感觉更安心与不被批判的环境下疗愈。

World Mental Health Day 2022 X Benefits of Hypnotherapy X UTAR X AHPM X MHSS

我们New Mind Academy第一届文凭班的学生代表Min和Paul,带着他们的爱与热忱,出席了由大马催眠治疗师协会(AHPM)和拉曼大学医学与健康协会Medical and Health Sciences Society (MHSS)在拉曼大学合办的活动,与医学系学生一起推广催眠疗法对精神健康疗愈的好处。
有近100位参与者出席了该活动,希望透过这个活动,科学催眠也会越来越受到重视,能成为其中一个在本地也广为人所知能的身心调整技术。

[Review] 创伤导向催眠治疗,改善自律神经失调反应 - Miss SY

曾经以为自己很坚强,控制情绪能力好。原来一直以来的控制只是在压抑在忍,没有好好管理,没有让情绪适当流动。情绪本来就不是像湖面那样平静,更没有一帆风顺;情绪就像海浪,有起有伏,要学会乘风破浪,做自己情绪的主人。

个案其实已经忘了原来半年前(2月)曾经画过一颗树。潜意识的语言可以说是图像,从树木状态的变化,我们依稀可以窥探见她潜意识层面的蜕变。她觉察到今天(9月)所画的树,充满了生命力,也更稳固和开花结果了。树木也找到了中心点,不再被左右。这相呼应她在review中所提及的感觉与体验,即"渐渐发现自己的抗压视窗变大了,懂得怎么管理情绪允许它们的流动,更懂得怎么正视内心的声音,拥抱内在的小孩,让他重新长大。表达能力也提升了,也学会设定边界,亲密关系的质量也大大提升。"

[Review] Dissociation Symptoms, Childhood Trauma and Relational Trauma Responses - Miss K





I had experienced numbness/decreased of touch sensory, unable to anticipate speed of car of differentiate directions (blur) on the road or cross road without any help, the first time after my PMR examination which lasted a month. Since then, I will have these experiences after very stressful event or when I don't get proper rest. For the past years, I had been visiting many clinics, hospitals, tried to get explanation on the above but all I get was it's the fault of diabetes (I'm a diabetic patient).

Due to certain incidents during childhood, I no longer have deep peaceful sleep. Slightest sound can even move me up. Even went through psychiatrist for help but the above still happens with conditions worsen until a doctor advised to approach clinical psychologist/psychiatrist. 

(Then eventually, the client found us, clinical hypnotherapy and neurofeedback practitioner)

For the first time, I able to get answers that I have been looking for so many years during the first assessment session. Since then, I started my therapy here. The very first brain training, I was able to have a goodnight sleep that night. However, both trainings results don't always maintain positive results as my brain trying to "fight back". As time goes by, slowly I realised that I no longer troubled by lots of thoughts and my sleep quality has very significant improvements. 

What surprised me the most is that there's a way to prove the impact of certain "injuries" and that it can be healed as well just like a visible wound which will leaves scars but not pain. Going thru the process of brain trainings and hypnotherapy, for me, it’s like cleaning a neglected wound. You will feel the “pain” during the “cleaning of the pus” for a few times then only the wound can “healed” healthy. 

I’m grateful and thankful that I have found New Mind Centre just in time when I needed it the most in my life and I can now able to lead my life normally with the knowledge and training that I have been thru.

 话说时间真的过得好快,一转眼就送走了一批同学。当然有不少同学会继续升学进入Diploma文凭班,但仍然会感觉哀伤啊。 









也谢谢大家给予允许,让我分享你们所给予我的肯定,这真是我永续经营的动力之一啊!也是课程中,我本身最大的收获之一呢。谢谢你们的看见,感恩。
